Welcome for a visit!
We are based in the city of Turku, Finlands 5th largest city (176 000 people), located in the South-Western part of Finland, at the gateway to the beautiful archipelago. The University of Turku is located on the Western bank of River Aura, near to Kupittaa train station.
Turku is easily reached by plane, bus, train, or ferry.
By plane: Most of the flights to Finland arrive in Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you may catch a convenient connecting flight from Helsinki-Vantaa to Turku. There are direct flights to Turku from Copenhagen and Stockholm with Blue 1, and also direct flights from Riga with airBaltic.
The airport in Turku is about 20 min drive from the university. Buses drive regularly (every 20 min) between the airport and the city center. A bus to the centre costs € 2.50, and a taxi about € 30.
By bus: Often the connecting flight to Turku is not a good idea, because you might end up waiting for hours in Helsinki airport. There's an hourly bus connection from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Turku, which is often the best way to go. When the bus stops at the Turku Cathedral (see map), you should get off. You can ask the driver to inform you. The trip takes about 2.5 hours.
By train: Trains travel to Turku from Helsinki almost every hour (see timetable). If you're coming straight to the university, get off at Kupittaa station (see map). The trip takes about 2 hours.
By ferry: Ferries sail from Stockholm to Turku about twice a day. If you're not in a hurry, spend a day in the archipelago. Choose from two ferry companies, Silja-Tallink or Viking Line.
The laboratory of genetics is up on the university hill (yliopistonmäki in Finnish), in Natural Sciences Building II (LT2). Take an elevator to the 4th floor and you'll reach us.
